An October Rasmussen poll listed the top concerns of voters in order: economy, health care, gov't ethics and corruption, taxes, energy policy, education, Social Security, immigration, national security, Afghanistan. No social issues there. Yet it was social issues that let the D's to harp 24/7 on the R's being anti-woman, anti-black, anti-gay, anti-poor, etc. Voluntarily stuck to this tar baby, the R's developed no critical mass with which to nail the D's for their obvious, massive failures in economy, health care, etc. Refusing to blow all your time on no-win issues like abortion doesn't mean you're pro-abortion; it means you would rather talk about issues that matter to the independent voters that will help you, or surely defeat you.
