Dr. Sowell's argument is that education matters. I agree. For that goal, education should see reduced spending NOT more. Simple example: close the Dept of Education. An immediate consequence is that teachers would have many hours a week freed up for instruction. These hours currently go to creating reports that ultimately end up at the Dept. of Education. More instruction time within the existing school day means better results. Bonus: it saves money. Take that money saved to attract -- and more importantly keep -- better teachers.
