The status quo of the republican party will not likely change. I think a migration away from the republican party or at least further alienation of large part of its constituency is inevitable. You can't cave on things like decency, morality, homosexuality legitimization, immigration and taxes and expect no fallout. Social issues cut to the core of those with even just a little morality left in them. For example: legitimizing homosexuality is unacceptable, period. Drop those issues and the rest of the issues will have little meaning.
