Christianity walked right into this trap. The First Vatican Council in 1868 resulted in the Catholic doctrine of Papal Infallibility. The only appropriate Protestant response was to declare that the Bible and the Bible alone is infallible. The people God gave the creation story to were people who thought it was a good idea to worship statues of farm animals. These were not people who would have taken well to a lecture on molecular genetics. Jesus said believe in him, not all of Hebrew lore. The opening chapters of Acts, Paul & others specifically rejected the notion that people have to become Jews before they could become Christians, so why are we clinging to the Hebrew creation story?
