There is not really a hard-&-fast divide between "social" & "fiscal" conservatism. A wise social conservative wants fiscal conservatism. The ability to keep & control one's earnings & wealth gives one the autonomy to follow one's conscience. When all your stuff comes from Big Sugar Daddy Welfare State, & all your earnings go to Washington, they can give or withhold so as to manipulate you into the moral & social stances they want to impose on you. Social conservatives get forced to subsidize the bad behavior of others, while losing the wherewithal to act according to doctrines of their faith. It is deeply foolish for a "social" conservative to buy the leftist lie that the welfare state constitutes Christian charity & should be supported.
