Sarah...I acknowledge your good intentions, but at the heart of your argument, you are wrong:
Give a man a fish today, but teach him to fish for himself. THAT is charity AND good will.
We have too many people who can't/won't learn to fish for themselves. We have a political class who will gladly take the fish that some are working to harvest, and give it to the hungry. The trade-off is that they stay in control, propped up by the dependencies they create. The crash comes when we reach the point where there just aren't enough people fishing to feed everybody anymore.
So...until The One learns how to make two fishes and five loaves feed the thousands...
