The debt number of 111 trillion is based on the amount needed to cover Medicare and Social Security for the future based on people that will qualify to draw them. It isn't based on the current debt. It just depends on your perception what is correct. I see the current debt as the one that exist now because if we would use the energy resources in our country we could pay off the long term debt.
