This contains a pretty ahistorical and idealized view of religious societies. A few times in history relgiousity and capitalism coincided, almost exclusively in Northern Europe. In Catholic countries, religion happily supported autocratic governments and kleptocratic inefficient economies. Israel is religiously Jewish and economically socialist and cultuarlly fare more secular than the US. This utopian view of a Protestant America where God and hard work and profit seeking all go hand in hand may never have existed, and will certainly never exist in the future. If that is what the Republicans need to win, then the party should be disbanded now.
