Here's the thing that bothers me about this logic: say an African-American criminal shoots at an Irish-American policeman, and misses. The officer responds immediately by shooting the guy and killing him. Was the officer's response disproportional? Was it inappropriate? Should we say "well, the cop was trying to arrest him," or "he's just a poor black man," or "he's being harassed," or "most criminals are poor shots?" Was the cop being racist? Yet the headlines read "White cop shoots black man."
