I recently read a WSJ column that explained that Obama had troops on the ground for his entire presidency, always cheering for Obama--in person, up close and personal--so that his negative campaign themes were just icing on the cake, his voters were already in full-worship mode. One conservative Hispanic reported that a friend had voted for Obama saying, "That Romney would have taken everything away from me!"
It helps to have a huge following with plenty of time on their hands, no real jobs to distract them. And his community-organizing skills probably didn't hurt, either.
How's anyone going to counter a "ground game" like that?! Especially anyone trying to appeal to taxpaying, working citizens.
