It's an interesting question to contemplate, the link between social problems and ongoing financial problems. I think Ms. Parker does make a point that there may be a link between the two, but I think she's overly simplistic in that link. I also believe that the health of a country can be tied to social problems. I think the government's policies (albiet well-intentioned) have made for conditions that further ills like single-parenting, high divorce rates, decaying inner cities, and poor education. And if that is to change, both government and society need to change their attitudes. It can't just be one.
