Justice Blackstone argued that the purpose of taxation is that a person gives up a small portion of his property to better secure the rest of it. Obviously when taxes get beyond a certain point, they become laughably contradictory to that end. I don't care about the revenue maximizing point or the growth maximizing point. The traditional moral maximum for taxes is 10%. Anything above that is slavery. President Obama is apparently anxious to send black folks and everyone else back to the plantations. It is also time to recognize that what you can buy for yourself for $1 you can get "free" from the government for nearly $3. For example health insurance and retirement annuities. The welfare state is a rotten deal.
