The trans-Atlantic slave trade lasted about 3 centuries. The slave trade to north Africa and the Middle East lasted about 9 centuries. Europeans (including Americans) lead the Abolitionist movement through out the world starting in the 1700's and some of the northern colonies in America already outlawed slavery before the Revolution. The British Navy enforced a world wide ban on ocean going slave trade starting in the early 1800's. Saudi Arabia and a couple of other M.E. countries outlawed slavery when? ..... IN THE 1960's
