The main point of my point was to point out that facts should be respected. One ought not publicly excoriate someone for ignorance, while misplacing the decimal by two notches on the question of how many people have been killed in wars before the 20th century.
Jose is of course wrong that "religion" is responsible for all those pre-20th century war killings. The Mongol Horde wasn't rampaging on account of some horse god. But they did kill an ungodly number of people. And even when wars are declared to be holy wars, there seems to be a secular agenda lurking in the background most of the time. (The witches of Salem were mostly girls who stood to inherit; their accusers, next in line to inherit. Just for a crude example.)
