If the Republican Party articulated its principles as set forth in its platform and convinced people that they truly believed in them and would implement them there might be a chance to prevail. By playing the quota game and running moderate (i.e. unprincipled) candidates the principles are lost and those who vote for the party will feel cheated thus leading to either abandonment of the process as tweedle dee and tweedle dum or embracing the Democrat opposition as at least being the real thing rather than a cheap imitation.
