I think it is time we DO something about the welfare state! Washington, we have a problem! I notice that nearly every kid in the school with an ED label (what used to be considered behavior disordered) is on public assistance. MANY of our LD (learning disabilities) kids are on public assistance...this cannot be a coincidence. Before people start harping--I have a daughter with an IEP, but our family is one of the few with a child who receives special ed services that does not receive public assistance. When will we start asking those on assistance what they owe us? Compassion DEMANDS that we have expectations, and that we work to get these people off the dole. Compassion does not mean making excuses and throwing money at problems.
