Pretty tough to oppose the idea that Lincoln was a dictator: arrests by thousands for expressing antiwar views, suspension of Habeas Corpus, destruction of opposition printing presses, and conscription. The establishment elites will, like you, try to tie opposition to Lincoln to being pro-slavery, in order to preserve Lincoln idolatry. Of course, that is what they would do: Lincoln more than any other president enabled the centralization of state power.
