Assuming the number of man-hours stays about the same, when hours per worker are cut, these companies will need to hire more people. The result will be a lower unemployment rate... sort of. The headline U2 number will go down, but the largely ignored U6 number will go UP! The U6 number adds the "underemployed" to the unemployed - that is, those working part-time that are seeking full-time jobs. Obama and the Democrats will take credit for lower unemployment while behind the curtains, their policies will drive down average incomes and increase the number of families (read voters) dependent on government assistance. Either they are evil geniuses or ignorant enablers. And any attempt to stop them will be cast as obstructionism.
