IMO there are two kinds of docs: mostly bright folks (with a bit of a messianic complex, perhaps) who become researchers and administrators and who like to tell the rest of us what to do, and mostly bright folks who learn how to take care of the sick or injured. The burden of the latter is becoming unmanageable due to the politics and/or arrogance of the former. Attempting to "fix" the system with the latest shiny bandage is doomed to failure, because the patient is terminal. This reality is causing a lot of cognitive dissonance among docs who are Democrat/liberal. I know a few who voted third party, for example, for the first time in their lives.
