In the states where gay marriage is currently recognized by law, there has not been one instance of a church being forced to perform a gay marriage or even a law suit trying to force a church to perform a gay marriage. There is no need to provide total protection for religious organizations in this matter. As far as gay adoptions go, the only issue that has come up has been church sponsored adoption agencies that utilize government funding. They are allowed to refuse to adopt to whomever they want, they just can't expect the government to provide funding for them under those circumstances. Your comment about one group whining about their rights while not caring about the rights of others applies to them as well.
