While there may have been price gouging practiced by a number of businesses, it was mistake on their part to assume it would go unnoticed. A prudent Business owner would have realized that voluntary limits on occupancy or amount of gas sold would have been in the long run, the way to go, PR-wise. Politicians love these incidents, it gives them a chance to show that the people cannot get along without them. These incidents also show that preparedness should not be overlooked, and to rely on government for salvation is unwise.
