Reforming the tax code is an enormously complex task, and can not be done in a few weeks. The one thing everyone can agree on is that we are spending more than $1 Trillion more than our revenues. And, if 47% of us pay NO income taxes (and some actually get a check from IRS, effectively a NEGATIVE income tax), that means that the 53% who DO pay income taxes are already carrying the load. The only way I can see to "broaden the base" is to tax EVERYONE--force everyone to have some skin in the game. Yes, that would mean taxing food stamps, subsidized housing, free cell phones, etc., making it PAINFUL to live on the dole.
