All though Petraeus deserves respect for his service to our country, it's getting annoying to hear so many say he was so great, or even a hero. IMHO, he was neither. In today's military the only officers that make to full generals are brown-nosing, risk-avoiding sycophants.
He and McChrystal may have "rewritten the book on counter-insurgency" (COIN), but that didn't mean they knew what they were talking about, and didn't do it for political expediency. It's well known that their COIN rules of engagement led to denying many marines and soldiers the air-support they requested to win a fight and save their lives.
