Think about this. The British did consider the Founding Fathers traitors. There is no questions that these men, who earlier in live considered themselves loyal British subjects, defied the King and Parliament, waging war to form separate nations. That is the very definition of treason. If the Revolution had failed and the British quickly restored power through military means, it is likely a great many would have been tried and hanged as traitors.
