For some reason, as soon as the federal government is involved, everything gets messed up. The less that the government tries to do, the better. Farm subsidies and cheap flood insurance are just examples of stupid government at work. Part of the flood problem is that we have so many people that some have to live in areas prone to flooding. Medicare and Medicaid account for the lion's share of our tax dollars and end of life care accounts for the lion's share of Medicare and Medicaid money. We need tort reform so that doctors can treat their patients in a responsible way, not ordering unneeded tests and treatments in case the family sues. We also need a paradigm shift in the way we view life: you don't live forever and keep fixing things.
