Pat,
We all understand that you use protectionism as the touchstone for all our economic ills, but the loss of manufacturing jobs to the third world is not solved by restricting trade; it is remedied by making the US more economically competitive.
No other competitive country sports these levels of costs:
-Regulations are higher than anywhere in the industrial world- Reduce EPA, OSHA, etc.
-Lawsuits are out of control- Tort Reform
-Public employee unions are expanding gov't
-Public pensions are out of control and sapping our tax dollars
-Federal, state and local governments refuse to cut spending
-Government debt is crowding out the capital markets
-Entitlements are unsustainable
-and now we will be burdened by Barrycare
