When I was young, I had a girlfriend named Mary. She was bright and energetic, full of life, hardworking and unafraid of challenge. Though she had flaws, they were not crippling, but needed a concerted effort to overcome. Together we were able to do that, for the emost part. Through hard work and somtimes strict, sometimes heart-wrenching sacrifice, we were able to maintain a happy, though not extravagant, lifestyle. But most importantly, we were happy, and free. Then Mary began associating with a different crowd, who seemed to look at her differently, as something to be used to their advantage. They began to promise her things, and lie to her about what she would have to give up to get those things.
