Another note from my voting experience this year. In 2008 there was a sense among many people that they were part of a significant moment in history while voting for Obama. I witnessed one voter letting his son touch the screen and loudly telling him that he would be able to tell his children and grandchildren how he had cast the vote for the first black President. There was none of that sentiment today. There were people gossiping about how badly residents of New Jersey and New York are suffering from the storm and their general disillusion with the competence of the government's response. People were not voting for a symbolic place in history, they were voting for someone who will do a better job.
