I would agree with Iron Head. The role of the Christian church is to preach the Gospel to reach the lost. If doing so involved acts of good charity then so be it. But without the Gospel, the church has no purpose, and has no need to exist. Providing a poor man with a meal and a blanket merely delays his journey to hell without him knowing about the Gospel. If he hears the Gospel and the Holy Spirit takes over by the grace of God, then that meal isn't really needed, because his soul is saved for all eternity. Just as Jesus said, "Man cannot live on bread alone."
