Obama was elected on charm, charisma, oratorical flourish and stage presence. To his supporters offered (or seemed to) a messianic vision, incomparable power, dedication to peace worldwide (see the text of the announcement of his Nobel Prize), a phenomenal sensitivity to the needy and suffering, and on and on.
I remember in 1974 when the Beatles came to America and girls were swooning right and left. LIFE magazine had a centerfold picture of a girl sobbing profusely with a clod of dirt in her hand wailing "Ringo walked on this grass!" (She's no doubt a grandmother today trying to live that down.) Obama hooked so many people, male and female, like that.
For those who fell for it, that Disney-animated fantasy is hard to let go of.
