Here I agree with you. The only part where I disagree is that that I say that the EC is not Republican/Federalist as it currently stands, due to mandates that the States not choose Electors but rather have them selected via balloting within the State. That is a huge difference, and its precisely analogous to the reason why Amendment XVII matters as well. People, such as yourself, seem to be confused about this, thinking that the EC gives the states some power over the the Federal government, or at least a check. Sadly, as it currently stands, it does nothing of the sort; unless that State happens to be a swing state with a large number of Electors.
