The Red Cross does fine work, but for more "bang for the buck", consider donating to The Salvation Army. The Salvation Army has been on the scene more many disasters, offering material aid and comfort to those who have suffered in these disasters. The red kettle you see around Christmastime is to help those who may not have a Christmas dinner or gifts for their children. The Salvation Army has been there well before the Red Cross at disasters, many times before the winds have died down. When Katrina struck, our Officers (ministers) were deployed from all over. Volunteers also went as volunteers to man the canteens, offering food and supplies, as well as helping with the cleanup afterward. The Salvation Army is still working in Haiti.
