It sounds to me like Mourdock is a Calvinist. For those not in the know Calvinists are big on the sovereignty of God. Put far to simply, if God is in control (sovereign) then nothing happens that he doesn't want to happen. I'm not a Calvinist, so if someone is, and feels this is an unfair summary, please take a crack at it. Anyway "Calvinists" stand opposed by the "Arminians", who are big on free will. Actually Catholics and a lot of other Christian denominations disagree with Calvinists also, but I digress. Anyway, a big theological dispute has been going on among some pretty smart theologians for over 400 years now. Mourdock is not a theologian ( and maybe not that smart). He should have kept his yap shut.
