Those of us who don't have children are paying for public schools which technically we don't "use"--although I recognize that universal education makes for a better society, so I am happy to pay taxes for it! I don't expect to be reimbursed for the amount of my taxes that goes to public schools, so the argument about "paying twice" for kids' education twice is bogus. I don't approve of vouchers for private schools of any ideology, but vouchers for religious schools violate church-state separation. But mostly my argument against vouchers is that they hurt public schools, which instead need to be strengthened. And yes, government money is taxpayers' money, but why do conservatives think it's OK for other taxpayers to fund private education?
