I always find those lists of what the "poor" in America have interesting. My husband and I would be considered upper middle class. But, we sure don't have a lot of those things the "poor" have. Air conditioning? Nope, couldn't afford to run it at the energy prices here in California. Cable TV? Nope, can't afford that either. Big screen TV? Nope, we bought our TV in 1997 and it's still running so why replace it? iPhones? Nope, can't afford the data plan. Now, tell me, why can the "poor" afford all these things when we can't? Oh yeah, that's right. The "poor" get all their basic necessities (food, housing,) paid for them so they have more disposable income for extras!
