Were it not for stupid re-indoctrination courses that consume class time, children could get all needed basic skills before the end of the 8th grade, or sooner. Having had calculus, and differential equations, I can say that those are virtually never needed in the real world. Far better it would be for companies to have apprenticeships for young aspirants and provide the needed tutelage for whatever is needed rather than waste time and money on frills and propaganda. The fact that teachers have unions shows where their concerns lie.
