I see it not so much a cliff to fall off as much as a wall to climb. With the higher taxes to pay and the lower government spending some will get squeezed from both sides. The right has won with spending cuts, and lost with higher taxes. The left has won with higher taxes and lost with lower spending. The people lose with higher taxes with fewer benefits, but win with a sounder fiscal policy that doesn't prolong the inevitable. If we can rid ourselves of the burden of excessive regulation and pie in the sky pipe-dreams we just might survive.
