As an Econ student I am always amazed when socialism is brought up in the media. Out of all of my textbooks including macro/ micro to application texts, like labor Econ or money/banking or even developmental Econ, analysis is always from the free market aspect. We never talk about socialism, economists have understood that socialism is a system that cannot produce efficiency or wealth and it certainly does not produce less poor. Paul Krugman has an intro to micro text that is almost identical to Mankews intro micro text. Neither of those texts attempts to explain the socialistic structure.
