However, it is an ever smaller group of people who attach any stigma to homosexuality. One can believe whatever they want about gay people, but the reality is that gay people are already accommodated, and whether gay marriage is legal or not has no bearing on it. Take Maryland, even if they ban gay marriage this November, the state still has domestic partnership laws that apply to gay couples. And, the pro-traditional marriage side is touting those DP laws. Take Minnesota--the Catholic hierarchy takes pains to say that gay people are our wonderful neighbors and that the marriage amendment is not directed at them... Seems to me that gays have a good place in society regardless of the marriage issue, and that is a permanent change.
