Paulus and Originist,
I am an historian. While a large part of my training took place at a government school it was the most conservative I could fine in my state. I firmly believe in looking at original source material so recommending second hand accounts doesn't do much for me. I do not believe the robber barrons were simply money grubbing evil men, but there were employment practices that needed some regulation. The simplest one for a non-historian to grasp would be the functioning of the company store. There were many others. Scripture is clear when it teaches than men are evil and must be restrained by the government, Romans 13. I think there are clear examples from the Pentateuch on how to do this.
