Recently, somebody from PBS complained about Romney's desire to cut their budget, and it "only represented one tenth of one percent of the Federal budget", or something like that. Two things here: 1. As Romney accurately said, we shouldn't be borrowing from China in order to fund PBS. They are a strong enough organization to stand on their own. 2. All of those "one tenths of one percent" seemingly inconsequential line items in the Federal budget eventually add up to one hell of a lot of money that we simply should not be spending because we don't have it.
