Conservatives will argue until they are blue in the face that there is no constitutional separation of church and state -- as long as the "church" in question belongs to their own faith. At the same time, they'll work themselves into a lather over the non-existent threat that Sharia law will be honored by the state. In other words, Belief System No. 1 should be treated as a de facto state religion but Belief System No. 2. should be shunned by the state. And they don't see the contradiction.
