The problem is that the modern liberal doesn't actually care about anybody but himself. Liberals, such as Tim Gietner, are against having their taxes raised or paying taxes at all, but are perfectly willing to raise taxes from those poor law abiding suckers in the great unwashed masses. And think they are humanitarians for buying fish for the starving with money extorted from the little people. Think they are doing great works as they block attempts to teach people to fish rather than just buying them fish. Then counting on their dependency to make those same people compliant and cooperative little servants.
