The 1960 election has the distinction of being the last one to date where both candidates were men of accomplishment and leadership ability. I think Nixon was the better candidate, and I do recognize Kennedy's personal failings, but he did not hate this country and think that he could gain political advantage by exploiting the hatred of the low-information voter. LBJ was a scoundrel, McGovern was a fanatic, Carter was a mental lightweight, and the less said about Mondale, Clinton, Gore and Obama, the better. In contrast, the GOP have had RINO insiders like Dole and McCain, but at least they proved their love for their country by their service and sacrifice. The fact is that we have had so few exemplary men to aspire to the office....
