The Civil War -- the most depressing spectacle of pointless human slaughter the world has yet known. A million illiterate dirt farmers sacrificing their lives for some rich Dumbocrat's "right" to auction human beings like cattle.
The ultimate sacrifice? States rights. As if any state ever had the right to legalize ownership of one human being by another. An invasion of Mexico would have be justified to stop such an atrocity. But Mexico wasn't doing it -- our own citizens were. Our shame is that Lincoln waited for an attack on Ft Sumter before finally put a stop to it.
Enslaving the black man: first "cause" of the new Democrat Party, founded 1860.
And 98% of the black race remains on the Dumbocrat plantation to this day.
