When the unions would rather shuffle low-performing teachers to low-income districts where the parents are unlikely to complain, rather than hiring new enthusiastic teachers to help students whose parents are less involved, then they have completely sold out the interests of the children to the interests of the adults. Shocker: just because you say the interests of the children are first doesn't make it true. Just because you claim to fight for an equal education for all children and to champion the needs of low income communities doesn't make it true. Until the needs of these kids trump any needs of adults, we will never make progress in giving these kids the opportunities they deserve.
