I have noticed that the cap for calorie intake is 850 for grades 9-12. I will tell you as a high school student and football player there is no way that this is enough. I back up this statement by the calorie intake that I am allowed by my doctor to help manage my diabetes. Now before you take a wrong turn and think my diabetes is due to my diet, this is type 1 and genetic on set. When diagnosed, all factors were taken into account. My calorie intake was set at 3600 per day. If divided evenly into 3 meals a day, that would equal 1200. A 350 calorie deficit. This in turn would cause low blood sugar episodes and symptoms of dizziness, confusion or if untreated, coma and death. Time to re-work the figures and provide accordingly.
