New York State has the Taylor law which was passed in 1967 under Nelson Rockefeller. It prohibits public employees from striking or face severe fines and/or jail time. I am a retired NYS employee and I believe in this law. The federal government has a similar law for public safety workers. Remember the Air Traffic Controllers strike in August of 81? President Reagan ordered them back to work and more than 11,000 were fired. These laws should be for all public employees regardless of position. No one group should have the right to cripple a city etc. And yes there are many lazy slackers. They know they will keep their jobs because no supervisor wants the fight it would take to get them fired. They must be fired before probation is don
