I am current federal employee and can confidently say there are all kinds of problems with compensation of federal employees. That said, it adds nothing to the discussion to throw out half truths as 'solutions. All federal employees hired after 1984 (less than 27years of service) have contributed to Social Security and Medicare at the same rates as the private workforce. Further, while federal employees still participate in a pension system, there were major structural changes to that system also in 1984, and a "401K like" system called the TSP was established in 1986 as an alternative retirement vehicle.
