Freedom of speech is not just some words in the constitution. It exists only because we as a people agree to hold it more dear than what sets us apart. The incensed mobs in the Mideast should be a reminder of what a remarkable enlightenment has occurred in the American mind. It is remarkable because it defies the natural craving of vengeance that we witness in these no so enlightened people, but exists in all of us. Cultural repression has suppressed the ability of these people to comprehend free speech. It may take many years before they will embrace the concept. We need to have patience, there is no other course.
